Helping Communities Succeed with Grant-Writing and Awards

As a full-service A&E firm, HUNT can boast that our team can take you from “defining initial concept designs (“dirt” engineering) to lingering after the last construction crews have left your site”. Well, add planning, public information campaigns, and grant writing to that project narrative.

In the past three years alone, HUNT has helped municipalities and other communities leverage over $47.4 million through grants and awards. With many projects eligible for state and federal funding but lacking grant writing personnel, HUNT’s team can identify funding sources, develop proposals, and manage administration. HUNT’s recent targets have included planning, parks and recreation, housing & community rehabilitation, and infrastructure projects.

HUNT's approach for working with clients in this capacity begin with anticipating their needs and laying the groundwork for those programs with the appropriate agencies, then developing multi-year plans and agency compliant preliminary engineering reports to serve as basis for prioritization and planning and finally executing the often-complex funding applications and agreements.

Concurrently, our grant writers, planners and team leaders systematically track the wide breadth of funding sources available to our clients to determine all potential opportunities. Even with the best laid plans, the turnaround on funding applications can often be quite demanding, and again, our preparedness is an enormous asset. HUNT’s funding assistance doesn’t stop with the application. Our team will help to execute the contract, aid in environmental reviews, administer grant funds, and support the project through completion.

Working closely with client’s financial team or advisers, HUNT will navigate issues concerning project aidability, related cycles of maximum incidental and cost allowances, and capitalizing on retiring debt service. Creative solutions prepared by HUNT have allowed our clients to leverage their local share and capital reserve funds to the maximum degree possible.

Supporting communities with over 50 projects being awarded grants, HUNT has experience working in Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Livingston, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Yates Counties.

HUNT's team recently had successful efforts at the Town of Campbell and Village of Candor Water System. At the East Campbell Town Park Improvement Project, community partners and HUNT secured $116,081 from the NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The project provides court and lighting improvements and the development of a walking trail at the homefield for the Corning Rugby Club.

Another community that is excited about their grant award is the Village of Candor. They secured $2,349,833 from the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation for critical water infrastructure improvements which will ensure reliable conveyance, improved water quality, and provide adequate fire protection for the community.

HUNT has experience with a wide variety of funding sources including: NYS Empire State Development Department of State; Local Government Efficiency; NYS Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA); NYS Main Street NYSDEC Water Quality Improvement Act; NYS Environmental Facility Corporation Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA); Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Appalachian Regional Commission; NYS Bridge Program; NYSDOT Transportation Enhancement Program; NYSDOT Safe Route to School State & Municipal (SAM); Facilities Program Consolidated Funding Act (CFA); and FEMA Disaster & Non-Disaster Relief Funds.
