HISTORY

Gowdy and Hunt emerged in response to the devastating southern tier flooding of 1972. Subsequent purchases of similar, community oriented engineering and architecture firms have resulted in the creation of a full-service firm capable of answering design challenges throughout the entire built-environment spectrum.

1968

1972

WEATHERING THE STORM

Tropical Storm Agnes devastates municipalities throughout the Susquehanna River Basin. Engineer Bob Hunt is among many engineers working diligently to design the repairs to the region's water and sewer infrastructure.

1973

GOWDY & HUNT FORMED

Bob Hunt and Newt Gowdy form the initial partnership that endures today.

1983

EXPANDING INTO NEW AREAS
THE START OF AN ERA

Engineer Bob Hunt opens his practice in Corning, New York. He signs and stamps his first set of engineering drawings as a professional engineer.

1985

HUNT REACHES TO ROCHESTER

The purchase of Hasenauer & Sovie Consulting Engineers of Canandaigua moves HUNT into the Rochester market, where it continues to have a strong presence.

HUNT purchases Connell & Hersh Architects of Corning, adding architecture to its survey and engineering services.

1993

NEW LEADERSHIP DIRECTION

Bob Hunt retires, and Dan Bower, John Cake and Chuck Franzese assume ownership of the firm.

1989

ACQUISITIONS MEAN MORE GROWTH

The purchases of two firms in Williamsport, PA., add clients and personnel to HUNT's roster.

2000

HUNT HITS THE CENTURY MARK

1998

HUNT's growth continues as its staff reaches 100 professionals and support personnel.

BREAKING NEW GROUND

Construction begins on a new 18,000 SF corporate headquarters building in Horseheads. The green design includes a sustainable meadow and full environmental controls.

2001

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

2002

ROCHESTER OFFICE FOUNDED

Following the purchase of FM Technologies, 15 architects, engineers, interior designers, and support people begin work at HUNT's offices at the Gorsline Building in Rochester's historic High Falls District.

100 HUNT staff members move into the new corporate headquarters building on Daniel Zenker Drive in Horseheads, NY.

2010

A DECADE IN HORSEHEADS

HUNT marks its 10th anniversary in Horseheads office.

2004

PARTNERSHIP TEAM GROWS

The HUNT leadership team grows to include nine members.

HUNT TURNS 40!

2011

NEW PA. BRANCH OFFICE

HUNT expands again as its Towanda office opens to better service Northern Tier clients.

THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP

To allow a percentage of non-licensed staff to hold ownership of the firm, as newly allowed by changes in State Law, HUNT officially changed it’s form of corporation and name to Hunt Engineers, Architects, Land Surveyors & Landscape Architect, DPC.

With Dan Bower, John Cake and Chuck Franzese stepping down from the Board of Directors and assuming roles on special assignments for the firm, long term leaders in other areas, transitioned to new roles with additional leadership responsibilities. Currently, HUNT has 11 shareholders and 6 associates including Chris Bond as President and CEO, Greg Barr and Darin Rathbun as Vice Presidents, Tim Steed as Corporate Secretary and Dean Hackett and Jeff Robbins rounding out the Board of Directors.

2023

HUNT TURNS 50!

 HUNT celebrates 50 years of serving its clients
and acquires Shumaker Consulting, Engineering, & Land Surveying. Expanding geographic outreach with offices in Binghamton, NY and Albany, NY.

12 associates. HUNT continues to strengthen its reputation as a premier provider of professional services within the many disciplines encompassing engineering, architecture, and surveying. The firm’s diversified portfolio includes projects of varying sizes across the public and private sectors.
