In 2021 the Maplewood Branch was determined eligible for inclusion on the National Register. Constructed in 1959 for $160,000, the Library meets Criterion C as an example of a Mid-Century Modern, designed library.

The library boasts floor-to- ceiling windows and wide open reading rooms with the capacity to hold 20,000 books, videos, and discs. The current educational, recreational, and community service programming at the
Dewey Avenue facility epitomizes leading edge library activities, and to those efforts, City and Library leaders charged HUNT designers with doubling the building’s footprint, refreshing and reimagining the
interior, improving parking, and creating a dramatic and welcoming entrance.
