Gary Thompson joined HUNT in 1980. A Director of Survey and a principal since 2004, he is responsible for the following: scheduling field and office personnel; reviewing field data for completeness and conformance to NYS survey standards and procedures; and coordinating office calculations; computer mapping functions; and, GPS & GIS contracts.

Along with establishing procedures and training, Gary assesses survey equipment needs, including repairs and calibration, and he is responsible for survey vehicle purchases, maintenance, and safety equipment.

Gary’s concentration in the areas of transportation design surveys and digital terrain model surveys has left him with the following toolbox of skills: photogrammetric control; horizontal and vertical control; control reports; ROW mapping; DTM; topographic and utility surveys; HEC II surveys; and the ability to coordinate GPS (global positioning system) surveys utilizing New York High Accuracy Reference Network (NYHARN).
