Crescent Street Bridge, Millport, NY
- Project Description: The project involved removing the existing single span steel multi-girder bridge and replacing it with a new prestressed concrete adjacent box beam structure with a pile supported foundation on approximately the same horizontal and vertical alignments. Approach work included minor sidewalk realignment, installation of an approach rail, roadway resurfacing, and roadside drainage improvements. This project was unique in that there was an existing building in close proximity to this bridge which was partially supported on the existing wingwall. In order to avoid impacts to the building a portion of the existing substructure was left in place and a new abutment was placed behind the existing abutment to provide support for the new superstructure. Additionally, a micro-pile foundation system was used to reduce the vibration effects caused from driving of traditional pile systems. The project was performed under the federally funded, locally administered process.
