Allegany CR 20 Bridge
- Project Description: HUNT was retained by Allegany County to design the replacement for the bridge that carries County Road 20 over the North Branch of Van Campen Creek within the Town of Friendship. The existing bridge was a steel, multi-girder jack arch with a concrete deck and asphalt wearing surface supported by reinforced concrete abutments. The new bridge is a prestressed concrete spread box beam superstructure with semi-integral abutments founded on friction piles. The spread box beam superstructure was chosen as a cost effective solution for this site and easily accommodated the half-width construction which was necessary to avoid a long detour and inconvenience for surrounding residents. The use of a semi-integral abutment with approach slabs allowed the bridge joints to be moved off of the bridge which will help extend the life of the new structure.
