Veterans Memorial Dedicated in Corning
Friday, November 11, 2011NOVEMBER 11, 2011, CORNI
NG, NY--Scores of veterans, government officials, and members of the
community filled the surrounding streets this morning to help dedicate the
renovated Veterans Memorial in Corning. Following brief remarks by project
coordinator Don Creath, Korean War veteran and member of the Corning Rotary
Club, the group cut a ribbon to mark the completion of the renovation.
U.S. Congressional Representative Tom Reed presented a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capital Building, which was then raised by the color guard.
On hand to represent HUNT were president and CEO Dan Bower, landscape architect Tim Insinger, and electrical designer Franc Gomez. HUNT donated the design of the honor flag, the new electrical service and lighting system, as well as other landscaping improvements to the memorial.

The previous day, Austin McManus, son of HUNT marketing and IT
director Derek McManus, joined the Corning-Painted Post School’s Interact Club
members in preparing the memorial for today’s event.
Along with the ribbon-cutting and color guard flag-raising, the event
included a cannon salute, and a brief memorial service conducted by area
veterans groups. The organizing committee reminded the public that memorial
bricks are still available for any individual or organization wishing to honor a
veteran.
